Okay, it seems the slow warming to non-electronic sounds continues. I’m liking The Kills. They remind me of the raw energy of 15 to 20 years ago, when every band was on fire, even the shit ones. Been listening to them at Xfm online UK, , where you have to sign up (avoid spam, lie) to hear what you find in the listening post.
Permission Pending on The Kills images from Bob Stewart’s excellent collection of concert photos at underexposed.org.uk. I’m assuming, assumptions being correct about 80 odd percent of the time, he’ll give permission.

I already posted a link in the “surfed side-linksx” to this site’s RADAR. This is to their main page “Protein OS”. The site is a fresh content riddled repository of euro hipster thought and passions.

Mark D. Rasch, J.D., former head of the Justice Department’s computer crime unit comments on copying and theft. Lots of maybe’s and greyness in the issue of p2p file sharing, but it’s clear the RIAA is talking out their ass when they say p2p users are pirates and all file copying is theft.
-btw the latest kazaalite has ip blocking (the license plate of your computer, so to speak, is blocked from view).

Downloaded the new Mozilla Firebird. Why hasn’t someone pilfered the Pontiac Firebird emblem, and manipulated it to enhance Mozilla’s marketing of this browser? -hmmmn. -review later.
Oh, and I downloaded the Mozilla Thunderbird, which is a stand alone mail application intended to offer a small footprint and a clean user interface. It’s being developed for the Mozilla browser, but I’m curious whether or not it is a true stand alone and able to work with IE. Tutorials are available.-review later.
I’ve used TheBat for 3 years of e-mailing, and for two years I’ve run Hotmail Popper as an addon to download and sendmail from my hotmail accounts. -TheBat is an excellent product; easy to configure, stable, fast and bugless.

ArchitectureWeek - Building - Crafting Concrete Countertops - 2003.0611
The virtue of concrete is its versatility. It can be creatively adapted to any setting or any style — modern or traditional. Its hardness, strength, and mass express the timelessness of natural materials such as granite and marble. Its plasticity allows a wide range of details to be incorporated into designs, from hard-edge contemporary to ornate traditional. This versatility makes concrete universally appealing as a finish material, not just for structural applications.
Back from working in Victoria for a week. Never mind that story. The point is that I was away and too busy to hunt down a ‘puter cafe’ resulting in the lack of posts. So I came across this concrete counter how-to while searching for images by the Chinese designer Chen Fang. His images I was impressed by skimming a design magazine found in Sophia Books, after having eaten at a Mexican Cantina that Monica mentioned a while ago (can’t remember the name, but it’s beside Ward Music)(I’d have to say that it’s hands down the best Mexican in Vancouver, if you like authenticity). And of cource I only wrote down the designer’s name, not the magazine, thinking he was so hot he’d have to be online, but I only found his prize winning peace sign silhouette called Victory that suggest the extranious fingers were cut/torn off.

@ Meta filter I found this much appreciated link which is that Vincent Van Gogh’s painting Moonrise will have it’s moon repeated 114 years later this Sunday July 13th. Should be a lot of artists and art lovers gazing at the moon, and, well, that’s some kinda tribute to Vincent’s celebirty as a genius. Mercury News has a decent play out of how the date and time was deduced.

Lost track of this site:
Discogs (short for “discographies”) is a database of music, organized around artists, labels, and their releases. Our goal is to build a complete catalog of electronic and underground dance music releases (techno, house, trance, ambient, jungle, etc.)
Discogs is not complete. It is constantly under construction as it grows. And you can help! If you’re browsing the site and see something missing, use one of the “Add Label”, “Add Release”, or “Update Information” links. You can also add your comments and feedback on any artist, label, or release.

I’m slowly finding myself appreciating “bands” again. BROADCAST is a nice discovery full of futuristic back-held cinematic wonder and quirks. I’ve some kinda summer stomach virus that has my brain fogged over, so I won’t compete with Pitchfork’s review.
