Fair use. Rascist Police. House of Blues.

Filed under: Uncategorized — giantkicks @ 1:25 pm

+ I’ve been trying to habitualize myself to following the Fair Use concept when publishing. Here’s a reminder and an enlightener for those of you who don’t know about what’s Fair use, or not fair? [via: NewsForge]

+ Yesterday at a sushi lunch at Mr Sushi on Davie, I was offended by an article on Frank Paul (not Paul Frank). Another native who’s life ended as a result of either Police negligence, or deliberate racism. Either way there absolutely aught to be an inquirey into why a unconscious native man was dragged out of the drunk tank and dumped into a rainy alley to die of hyppothermia. The Solicitor General Rich Coleman has rejected having a public inquirey due to significant concern ‘with the possibility of opening a coroner’s inquest during which culpability, liability, and issues of racial discrimination are likely to become the central features of attempted cross examination. Simply put, a coroner’s inquest is not the forum for these debates’ What a load of crap.

police video of Frank Paul being dragged across floor.

+ Regan’s older brother, Riley O’Connor, is an exec at House of Blues and was interviewed as part of a CBC piece on Ticket Master price gouging. read or watch. [via: Kirstie]

Nalan’s grafitti.

Nalan and I hung out for quite a few months when I lived in Turkey. She is one of the most creative and productive artists I know. What I mean is that she’s always in the creative process, always making stuff. - I think she rocks!! - other than this being a self portrait and no doubt inflamitorily political, I can only guess what it means. If any of my Turkish friends ever visit my blog, please feel free to translate this: ‘beyoglu belediyesi adayiyim mhp den. ‘ ‘dogum gunume gelenler , en kotu gunumuz un gece olsun gelmeyenler: topsunuz !’

Brian Maxwell, the developer of the Power Bar, died of a heart attack at 51. I don’t eat Power Bars anymore, but they were my first source of emergency food to staunch hypoglycemic stupor. They worked better than nothing, but didn’t seem a perfect solution. As with most nutritional bars they don’t list the sugar content, and it’s therefore difficult to judge how beneficial they are when I find myself feeling under powered. Too high of a sugar content in a simpler form burns too quickly and gives too sudden of a drop in energy for me to function well.

Breebop. WTF!!

+ I have to mention that I just added breebop to my link menu. Breebop is another attention paying Vancouver blogger.

+ What The Fuck? In England the government is charging wrongfully convicted people for their time in prison. Imagine that, say 10-20 years of being eaten up with the injustice, then having to pay money for your time in prison. - makes me wanna laugh insanely, barf, and scream ‘you’re all crazy fucking assholes’ out my window. - will I? - nah. Military, Fraud, Compac. Color Picker, Illusion.

+ A civilian working for the Canadian National Defence and a sales rep for Compac/Hewlett Packard are being invesitgated for “serious billing irregularities.” The defence department has probably been defrauded of some $90 - $160 million dollars as a result of phoney invoicing for computer hardware support and services. - one of the fraudsters is now living in the Turks and Caicos…were I in charge, and moneys not returned, this person would have an accident. As would all the people involved in the other multi-million dollar scandal. These two scandals amount to nearly half a Billion dollars in theft. Is there a government on the planet that isn’t suffering unending fraud? What checks and balances do they have that we don’t. In Canada, our judicial system is well known for slapping hand punishment. - should we learn from the enlightened Israelis and flatten the property of all the relatives of these fraudsters? Maybe that would deter more crimes here…

+ I had to use a colour picker (Aaron Isotton’s ‘AI-Software - Smart color‘) to verify that what looks like two very different shades of grey are identical. A nice optical illusion. [via: Alex King]

RealNetworks Enterprise.

Try using RealNetworks Enterprise as an alternative to RealOne, or Real Player. It’s less invasive. Fill out the form with false info, of course. While installing, select custom install to prevent it from taking control of default player settings. Link via a very disgruntalled Jogin.
