Customizable Dot Matrix Wrist Cuff - Black - From FractalSpin

Filed under: Uncategorized — giantkicks @ 8:51 am

+ David IMed me this a while ago. Just noticed it. Geeks ARE cool! From FractalSpin comes the $30 Customizable Dot Matrix Wrist Cuff - Black

You’ve seen those blinking LED belt buckles that scroll messages right? And you were always like “Nice idea, but there’s no way I’d ever wear that.” Well here’s our solution: the leather customizable dot matrix wrist cuff. Just punch out any of the dots on a 5 x 30-dot grid and spell out words or create patterns. Super cool!

On this thin strip of leather, each dot is attached with only two points to the rest of the cuff, so either you can push really, REALLY hard on each dot you want to annhialate, or grab an Xacto knife and cut out the dots you want gone. Either way you’ve got a cool dot-matrix DIY cuff!

We’ve made some templates of example geek-phrases for you, to make your life easier. Check it out:

Comodo Personal Firewall 2.0 review by PC Magazine

Filed under: Uncategorized — giantkicks @ 1:42 am

+ Found a new, solid freeware firewall to install by Comodo. I’ve used Sygate’s personal firewall for 6 years or so. Last year they were bought by Symantec, who has taken dowloads offline. I realised it might be time to use a new firewall when I could not configure the firewall to allow pinging so I could run a complete tweaktest from broadbandreports. Not much luck “>changing settings based on Sygate’s forum. Which leads to the following:

Comodo Personal Firewall 2.0 review by PC Magazine

Comodo Personal Firewall is a kick-ass free firewall. It keeps hackers out and tricky unauthorized programs off the Internet. And it resists being terminated. It works as well as all but the best for-pay firewalls—and did I mention it’s free?

Blocks attacks from outside. Controls which programs can access the Internet or network. Recognizes known safe programs. Blocks malware-style leak tests. Resists termination by malware-style techniques.

Initial bombardment of program-control confirmation pop-ups can be annoying—as with most firewalls.

Extensions Add-ons Stop Working. Firefox 2.0

Filed under: Uncategorized — giantkicks @ 6:50 pm

Firefox2.0+ I upgraded to Firefox 2.0 release candidate 3 and read “Firefox requires additional items” and it “disabled for your protection” a bunch of my extensions/add-ons. Had a short lived panic over the loss of mouse gestures, but all extensions work fine after I changed back to the default theme. Some themes haven’t updated for use in Firefox 2.0, so if you see that error, that may be the problem.

SmarterMail From SmarterTools Inc.

Filed under: Uncategorized — giantkicks @ 5:53 pm

+ I’m shopping around for a program to serve mail from my computer. I’m not a fan of webmail, and a domain I use for email is hosted on a sever that has proven unreliable for sending mail. There are little applications that sit in your system tray, and there are full solutions for enterprises with hundreds of employees out there. This one is in the middle. It’s a free version of their enterprise solution, with the only limitation of 10 users. I might try it, considering it offers webmail too.

SmarterMail includes everything you need to host email, including the following:

* Support for All Common EMail Protocols
* Full-Featured Web Mail
* Abuse Detection and Prevention
* Overridable Spam Filtering
* Integrated Reporting
* Contacts, Calendars, and Tasks
* Synchronize with Microsoft Outlook and Pocket PC 2005
* and much more…

Want your house to feel like your favorite photo? Try the Color Palette Generator.

All you need to do is provide a link to where your photograph is hosted, and press the button. Oh yeah - you can also use this color tool to put together some sweet looking web design layouts.— Wendy Boswell

The Poster List

Filed under: Uncategorized — giantkicks @ 2:08 pm

lion poster+ I just bought this 12 x 18 poster from The Poster List for, with shipping, $14.99us. Found the link reading through Matt Haughey’s posts on A Whole Lotta Nothing for a few hours. Matt has a hack running that inserts mini-posts, without permalinks, so I can’t link to it. Rather I quote: “Niiiiice stuff. I’d love to have a cyclist, Mandela, and Clinton hanging in my hallway.” I agree that their posters would suit any hip hallway..but don’t overlook the possibility of hipping-up your kitchen.
