gmail invite

Filed under: Uncategorized — giantkicks @ 8:43 am

** Please note: I will only give a gmail invite to another weblogger or a person who I believe deserves something. If you are a stranger and think you deserve an invite, tell me why or DO NOT ASK ME FOR A GMAIL INVITE!

+ anyone want a gmail account? Monica sent me an invite, but the Opera web browser isn’t supported by gmail. - the invite expires on the 14th of September so first come first serve. I’m not sure I would use the service in any case as I’m partial to my privacy.

**update: After much deliberation, I decided that I would sign up for a gmail account, and not use it until I’m comfortable with their privacy policy, and they offer POP3. - Monica had to reinvite me as the invite expired early. The original notification letter stated I had three weeks to claim an account before it would expire. It expired a day shy of two weeks.

I’m not so worried about it and it doesn’t appear he is either and Gmail has addressed this issue to my satisfaction here.

well, having read that o’reilly post and a bunch of forum discussions, i decided to keep it for myself.

I also looked at this website but frankly, I found their Gmail user profile offensive. I wanted to find some info from the EFF and found this interesting post. Gmail is not my main email address - I am interested in trying it and will now be a more conscious user. It is a complicated issue that is far broader than just Gmail. Thanks for making me think!

Not that I know much but… I think Gmail rocks! I’ve had it since May and I’ve received one piece of spam (and it was more like a chain letter than real spam). And all this worry about privacy - PSHAW! If there’s anyone you can trust on the internet it’s the good people at Google (and then comes Craigslist). As well, I think it’s much more probably that someone at MSN is hacking away then the socialist sweethearts at Google.

that’s really funny that they’re thinking of introducing legislature against Gmail. WTF?

    That profile is ridiculous.

But the fact is, I don’t know them..and so I don’t feel comfortable knowing that their system is tracking all my searches, and has been for as long as I’ve had this IP address, and they would pair that with words scanned out of my emails. They haven’t stated that they remove your email from their data base after three months which allows homeland security access. Homeland security are freaky fucks (me stating that puts the quality of any visit I might make to the states at risk). Homeland Security could request a scan of all emails with any sort of anti-Buh or anti-America statement in it. I grew up yelling at my brother “I hate you” and “I’m gonna kill you”. The expressions intense, but not likely at all. There are those of us who think it is a matter of freedom of expression to say things like “George Bush should be assassinated for his role in the deaths of soldiers and Iraqis”. And I’ve heard people voice that “the world would be a better place if America was wiped off the map..I know if the button was under my finger, I’d press it”. Neither expression likely to take place, but their ability to convery intense frustration and conviction absolutely critical to freedom of speach. Gmail itself may not be as evil as I think it might be, but by allowing it unharnessed access to our private information, it sets a precedent. A precedent that will continue the erosion in our belief that we can freely express ourselves without risk to the quality of our lives. -and who knows what is the next stage of access to our personal and private lives. You know BC is planning to farm out our Medical information to an American company. That company is obligated to American laws. If the American government decides that anyone who has received shots for travel in the middle east, who has said “fuck bush” in an email, etc, etc..which is what M_ and I talked about over lunch at Wild Ginger in the International Village in Tinseltown. The two of us had noodles and fish, with soup, and white tea for $20 bucks including the tip..an awesome deal in a nice place.

I don’t think they do POP3 yet, I just checked. Hey, are you going to Keoki tomorrow? John Selway? Why don’t you answer my e-mails? Don’t you want to be my friend?

  7. kent Says:

What do you mean? I replied to your last e-mail, the goatse one. Are you saying you didn’t get it? Must be gmail. It knows I have issues with it and is avoiding me. -I’m not really being much of friend to any one right now. Sorry if my behaviour comes across badly. I’m working lots and preparing for a good run in my studio this winter..I’m kinda not all that into being in a club.

  8. Ariadna Says:

I haven’t received an e-mail from you in ages. I wonder if they did that goatse thing on purpose.
