+ Spam via VoIP called SPIT is on it’s way. VoIP, or voice over internet protocol, is slowly creeping into the telephony market, and with it will eventually come spam. In case you haven’t heard of VoIP yet, it utilizes broadband internet to communicate to phones on the conventional telephone system. It’s going to take over. Eventually the celular network will be VoIP. Everything will be networked for complete connectivity. - too exciting, I can barely breathe - And so an interesting new market for geeks to get into will be VoIP security. And if you have any $$$, I’d hedge a good chunk of my cash in VoIP technology. Perhaps investing in Qovia, mentioned in the article, ” a company that sells enterprise tools for VoIP monitoring and management, recently applied for a patent on technology to broadcast messages via VoIP — and another one for a method of blocking such broadcasts.”
+ Yikes. I think if I was an American, I’d be very afraid. - what’s the Democratic position on p2p networks and file sharing? The Republican position is obviuos. You are a criminal if you share music and videos with your friends.

four reasons why VoIP completely replacing POTS (plain old telephone system) is bad…
1. cable companies don’t have uptime requirements like telcos do.
2. when was the last time you saw a manual for a telephone?
3. if you reply on CALL ID BLOCKING, you aren’t guaranted in it working.
4. you want to rely on a microsoft product for your telephone?

1. Cable companies will have to self-regulate if they want to retain customers.
2. I imagine someone is developing a telephone that connects to your cable outlet, something that is operated based on the same principles as POTS.
3. Encryption tied to request response..? - someone will figure it out.
4. Microsoft aint the only game in town. Ever hear of Linux? -
- I have no problem with Microsoft as an operating system. I just don’t use any of it’s software. I’ve had the same XP installation on my machine for over a year and a half. Any problems I’ve had with it have been of my own doing; from bad hacking and tweaking, and once I opened a mail virus that seemed to come from a friend that took a half hour to clean out. Personally, I think Microsoft does very well. That they are accused of neglect and incompetence because super geeks with malicious intent obssessively target Microsoft for perhaps years before finding a security weakness..well..do we blame the architects of the World Trade Centre because it collapsed when a Jet crashed into it, or do we blame the hi-jackers, or do we blame the society they came from, or the society that persecuted them, or their parents, or their friends..
